Catch Muted Microphones and OBS Audio Track Problems
Get configurable warnings when selected audio sources show signs of a problem during your stream.
Audio Guard is part of FDGCast, the same OBS streaming companion that includes chat, multistream controls, activity and monitoring.
Why use Audio Guard?
A microphone can remain muted after a break, or an audible source can be excluded from the stream track. Watching the video preview alone may not reveal either problem.
How Audio Guard works
Audio Guard checks selected microphone and optional game-audio sources using the available OBS source state and meter readings. It can detect prolonged mute, sustained silence, missing or inactive sources and zero volume. When stream-track routing is verified, it checks whether selected sources are included on that track.
- An optional chosen VOD-track check warns when a source is excluded from that track. It does not verify the platform’s VOD encoder configuration.
- Quiet scenes and Snooze help reduce unwanted alerts. Optional near-clipping checks flag sustained high levels when enabled.
- Configure Windows notifications and the FDGCast chirp or a supported custom WAV. Warnings do not automatically alter mixer or routing settings.

A practical streaming example
You return from a break and forget to unmute your microphone. A prolonged-mute warning prompts you to check it. Before another stream, a track-routing warning helps you notice game audio excluded from the configured stream track.

- Pair Companion with OBS and choose the microphone and optional game-audio sources you want monitored.
- Review the expected stream track, optional VOD-track check, quiet scenes and notification preferences.
- Use Test Windows notification and Test sound, then test the selected audio sources in your own OBS setup.

Audio Guard questions, answered
Will it warn me if my OBS microphone is muted?
It can warn when a selected monitored source remains muted long enough to trigger the configured check.
Does it monitor audio tracks?
It checks selected sources against a verified stream track and can check inclusion on a chosen VOD track. This does not certify the platform’s VOD configuration.
Does Audio Guard change my mixer automatically?
No. It reports potential problems; you decide whether to unmute a source or change routing.
Can it detect every audio failure?
No. Checks depend on the selected sources, OBS state and available meter/routing information.
Can I choose my alert sound?
Yes. Supported custom WAV alerts, sound volume and notification preferences can be configured and tested.
